Independent study program
Freedom can occur only through education
Creating open minds
Traditionally, education in Tanzania has always been delivered in a standardized, but inflexible manner. Lack of materials, supplies and teacher development has caused the system to remain stagnant in it’s approach to learning. The Independent Study Program takes an innovative approach to acquiring a secondary education without attending a traditional school; similar to the American GED process. Students of all ages form groups each year and study at three levels, each targeted to a National Exam. The program provides teachers to help, a classroom for subject instruction, outdoor space to create study groups, and opportunities for debate. And, unlike traditional schools that have few books, if any, our students have individual access to the textbooks they need. They also receive a solar light for use at home in the evenings and are reimbursed for exam fees once the exam is completed.

As far as we know, Jifundishe is the only organization with a program this unique, this effective and this accessible.
