Jifundishe Scholarship Funds

Supporting educational potential

Houston Scholarship Fund

In 2008, with the support of Annie and Andre Houston, the Houston Scholarship Fund (HSF) was established to provide financial support for educational fees for children and young adults who have little or no support from family. The fund seeks to help girls and young women who are challenged by discrimination and oppression and are more at risk for trafficking, early marriage and future poverty due to these challenges. It is the purpose of this fund to help create a sustainable life for the candidates who are chosen to receive financial support. In addition to providing all of the necessary school fees, Jifundishe supports the students with computer skills classes, sexual and reproductive health lessons, and tutoring during their school breaks.

How your gift will help

$25 Provides a backpack for a student

$50 covers the cost of a day-long sexual and reproductive health lesson

$150 funds a reproductive health workshop for all participants

$500 supports a year of fees and supplies for a student

Imagine! For only $500 per year per student, our program participants can attend secondary school with a full scholarship, and all necessary supplies. Help us provide this next step in their educational program so that they can realize their dreams of being doctors, engineers and business owners. Help them go the distance!

May Higher Learning Fund

Our Houston Scholarship Fund and Independent Study Program both provide educational opportunities to students of all ages who are seeking to complete their secondary level studies. In 2014, Jeremy May, and his sons, Ryan and Jack, visited Jifundishe and saw, first-hand, how hard our program participants worked to educated themselves outside of traditional schools. Impressed with their commitment and perseverance, Jeremy worked with us to establish the May Higher Learning Fund which provides the next step to individuals who perform well in our HSF and I.S. programs. Our program participants are eligible to apply for full sponsorships at universities in Tanzania that they are selected for, and because such a small number of rural Tanzanians are able to afford university costs, this program provides an enormous (think, winning the lottery!) benefit to our students who come from poor households with little support. We are thrilled to partner with Jeremy, and his family, to provide that last, giant step in the educational process that will provide sustainable lives for our program participants.
